Somewhere in the Middle

Saturday Contemplation #18

If you’ve been living one step ahead of yourself, this is for you.

Not because you’re doing something wrong. More because it’s easy to live like you’re always trying to arrive. Like the real exhale is just one more task away. One more step. One more version of you that finally feels “caught up.”

This week is a reminder that you don’t actually know where you are on the timeline. None of us do. And that uncertainty can tighten you, but it can also soften you. It can loosen some of the pressure that comes from the outside world. The need to prove. The need to be on track. The need to perform your life like it’s being graded.

After you listen, don’t try to overhaul anything. Just do one small thing that brings you back into contact with yourself. Say the honest sentence. Take the slower breath. Let one moment be un-rushed. Be 5% more fully you, on purpose.

And if you catch yourself immediately reaching for the next thing, that’s not a failure. That’s the habit. Just notice it once, and come back.

That’s the practice.
